Welcome to Ivanhoe Grammar School
From the Principal
Ivanhoe Grammar School was founded in 1915 by The Reverend Sydney Buckley who strongly believed that the development of individual character was paramount and who developed a strong ethos of service to others.
These beliefs still hold true today and from the humble beginnings of almost a century ago, Ivanhoe Grammar School has continued to provide students with a dynamic and innovative education.
Under the guidance of our experienced and skilled teachers, students have the opportunity to be involved in a range of experiences that establish a foundation for what we believe will be a productive future:
- Students are encouraged to develop a love of learning and to ensure that they possess the skills, resources and motivation to fully experience lifelong education so that they have the best foundation for their life beyond school.
- Students are encouraged to develop a sense of service to others, especially to those less fortunate in our society.
- Students are encouraged to develop strong relationships where individuals learn to listen and speak to each other in ways that will lead to a deeper understanding of human needs.
- Students are encouraged to examine the faith and teaching of the Christian church in the light of their own and others belief systems in order to develop their sense of spiritual understanding
- Students are encouraged to develop a set of values and a code of ethics that will enable them to contribute fully in a modern, globalised world
The School is a member of The Round Square, an international educational organisation founded by Kurt Hahn, with its pillars of Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure and Service. These pillars underpin the philosophy of the School both within and outside the classroom.
However, it is the students who are best placed to relate their experiences as a member of Ivanhoe Grammar School and we hope you will learn more about us through their shared journeys.
