There are a wide choice of specialist subject areas offered at Plenty Primary
Science
All students in the Primary school learn about Science. Students in Prep – Year 2 work with their class teacher to develop skills of enquiry. Students in Years 3 – 6 work with a specialist Science teacher in the Science Laboratory. They explore areas including Earth Sciences, Physics, and Chemistry. The practical nature of this program is very appealing to the students as they carryout experiments related to the topic of study.
Students are also involved in the Science Talent Search and our own Science Fair.
Physical Education
Plenty Primary offers an extensive Physical Education program that teaches our children the skills and attitudes necessary for success in our sports program. Students are involved in Physical Education lessons twice each week. As well as these lessons the students are involved in Gymnastics at PIT Gym with qualified instructors, swimming lessons, Auskick, and Joey Tennis.
Our older students in Years 3 – 6 extend their fitness by participating in the cross country and athletics program. Students compete in these and other sports at a school, district and state level.
Art
Art encourages our students to develop their creative skills with a range of different media and to appreciate art forms created by others. The students work in our Primary Art room, part of the Creative Arts Centre.
Music
The music program includes singing, movement, listening and playing percussion instruments. The aim of the program is to encourage all students to appreciate and enjoy music. Students in Years 2 and 3 learn violin, viola or cello as part of their music program. Private music tuition is available to all students for a wide variety of instruments and voice.
The music program strongly supports the Performing Arts at the School.
Japanese
All Primary students learn Japanese. The program focuses on both language and culture and is taught through games, songs and cooking. The program strengthens our school value of tolerance and understanding as the children learn about and appreciate a culture quite different from our own. We look forward to our annual visit from our sister school in Japan, Shoyokan High School. These older students spend time with the Primary children, reading stories and providing them with an opportunity to practise their language skills.
Library
All students have a one hour Library session each week with our Teacher/librarian. Our Library is a welcoming place with a vast collection of fiction, nonfiction and picture story books as well as games and toys to play. It is a busy place, both during lesson times and at lunchtimes when children flock to the Library to enjoy the environment. Library lessons promote a love of good literature and an opportunity to learn library skills. Highlights during the year include visits from authors and illustrators.
Values and Faith
Students in Prep to year 6 learn more about our Values in a weekly Values and Faith lesson. Lessons are linked to our weekly Chapel sessions. The children discuss how they can ‘live’ our school values in practical ways, both at school and in the community.
