At Buckley House we use our values to help others
Leadership
Participating in leadership activities helps students to build confidence, self-esteem and character, and grow to become responsible, successful young adults. Buckley House believes all students have the ability to lead, therefore all students are provided with opportunities to do so.
In Years 4 to 6, students are encouraged to be a part of the Future Leaders program. In Year 5, students take part in leadership programs and are given solid foundation skills in leadership qualities.
All students have leadership roles in their final year of primary and they develop leadership skills across many areas. They also have the opportunity to become House Leaders in sport, music, public speaking, journalism, photography and service.
Service
Buckley House is involved with numerous service projects. By participating in these projects, children better understand society and receive aspects of their education that would not be available in the classroom.
In Year 5, a Prep Buddy Program exists where children can work alongside younger children as mentors. Children also work with Olympic Village Primary School, where children engage in learning activities with Prep and Year 1 children.
Students in Year 6 make regular visits to a local elderly people’s home. In these visits, children sing, participate in activities, make morning tea, play instruments, chat to the residents and have even built a mosaic garden.
The most significant service program involves Year 5 and 6 students travelling to Cambodia to create an art project with Cambodian students. This trip involves all levels of Ivanhoe Grammar School. Primary teachers train Cambodian student teachers in Phnom Penh, Alumni and parents work together to renovate classrooms in village schools, and senior students raise money to build houses for local Cambodian families.
Students organise the Carnival for Cambodia at Buckley House to raise money for senior students to build houses.
