Guardianship and Homestay

Guardianship and Homestay

A safe and friendly environment awaits you in Melbourne

Melbourne at dusk

Many international students studying at Ivanhoe Grammar School have relatives in Melbourne who can assist with accommodation and guardianship. Students are not permitted to live independently or without adult supervision.

The School has an extensive and closely monitored homestay network supervised by the Dean of International Students and the Homestay Coordinator.

Students complete a homestay request form at the time of accepting a place in the School. Every effort is made by the homestay placement agency, Student Accommodation Services, to fulfil the requests of students as closely as possible. Students should expect to travel to School for 30 to 40 minutes on good public transport.

Ivanhoe Grammar School requires each international student to have a Guardian, appointed by and preferably known to the parents, to provide personal and practical support outside the School environment. If possible, the Guardian should be personally known to the student, and ideally, could also provide accommodation. The Guardian would be expected to take a personal and parental interest in all aspects of the student’s welfare. The School will assist families to make guardianship arrangements, if necessary.
